It all starts somewhere...

And on one fine Saturday morning in April 2019, the rare Saturday that C took off work, we went to breakfast at a gorgeous quirky cafe with Nutella French toast to die for! Looking back we blame the sugar high for our purchase! Although things didn't happen all that quickly.

Selling our cute cottage in a quiet inner city suburb in the search for a bigger house and backyard we had been looking for a few months for something we could put our mark on renovating or starting from scratch but hadn't found anything that quite ticked the boxes. Whilst downing our delicious breakfast and creme brulee coffee we recalled a place nearby that we had seen for sale on realestate.com.au, absolutely awesome location and walking distance from where we currently dining. There was home open just after we had finished breakfast, it felt like it was a sign that the house gods were telling us to go a take a look. We arrived and it really took your breath away, for all the wrong reasons. A typical build of its day, asbestos for as far as the eye could see, faded blinds and a carport that anyone taller than 6ft would hit their head on walking to the front door. We were the 2nd couple there, the other couple were speaking to real estate agent who was asking them the usual spiel; what are you looking for? whereabouts are you at the moment?. It was quickly established they were in the market for a renovation to which the real estate agent had a giggle and said this one wouldn't be for them, it would be a knock down job. It didn't take long to walk through the small house then we proceeded down some very significant back stairs to a series of out houses; laundry, toilet, shade house, other open air room(?) with a cupboard and armchair and a de-mountable tacked on the very end. We have still not figured out what assortment of activities went on in these structures and probably don't want to know. The long skinny block really revealed itself when you stood in the backyard and it felt like it kept going and going past the fruit trees until you arrived at the chicken coop/shanty with more asbestos marking the back of the block. Maybe the illusion of the long backyard was magnified by the significant front to back slope of the block. Who in their right mind would buy this thing?!
